JEDDAH: How many of you have been dying to use the new WhatsApp calling feature in Saudi Arabia? We know we have! As avid WhatsApp users we were dying to get our hands on the service. Last week, many WhatsApp users in the Kingdom, expressed their delight on being able to make calls via the app, which has previously not be allowed.
However, this wasn't exactly welcomed by everyone because it was not working for every user. For some, the service was working great and they could hear the other person clearly, whereas for others the call would connect but then drop as soon as they answered. For some, it was not even working at all.
This service was welcomed with open arms last year when it was introduced worldwide, though WhatsApp stated that it would not be available in all countries due to certain "local laws and regulations".
Many users stated that the service could only be used over the same wifi network, which was quite frustrating.
So with flaws and all, it's hard to see whether the service will be fully functional in the Kingdom or not, but we hope that it is soon.
